The StORY
Four souls of the deceased meet in the purgatory. They are waiting for their turn in a line. In front of them there is the Tree, the Baobab, the Imbondeiro. The people do not remember how they ended up in this place and do not know why they died. There is only the Tree in front of them. Touching it, the soul interacts with the Tree and remembers her past life story. The Baobab helps her to relive the most important moments of her earthly life and weighs her deeds. Baobab is both the Apostle Peter and a portal. It helps to remember the story of a person, and by telling it, he decides whether to let the soul go to heaven or not. But unable to withstand the pain experienced by these people, and the crimes they committed, the tree burns down.

Palasa Dance Company
Palasa Dance Company is a contemporary dance company founded by Miguel Carlos in early 2018 in Angola.

The company was born from the idea of promoting theatrical dance in Angola and giving birth to this art form as a sustainable career within the Angolan market.

The word "PALASA" comes from the Kimbundu which means "HOPE". The company gives hope to future generations looking to pursue dance as a career. Palasa Dance Company will serve as a platform for young artists to showcase their talent, their work, in what is one of the most prestigious forms of performing arts.

Palasa Dance Company brings innovative, dynamic and thought-provoking pieces of work that challenge social values. For this feat, it relies on diligent choreographers and dancers.

Who is the project author?
Mariia Amelenkova
Director, video artist, actress
Hi, let me introduce myself, the director of The Embondeiro project. I started my path studying as a sound designer. In 2014 I graduated from the Russian Drama School in Saint-Petersburg as an actress, after I was working in Takoy Theatre.

In 2015 I also dived into the world of projection mapping and started to work as a video artist combining it with my actor's job.
Since 2015 I had an internship and worked in a team of Video Artist Polina Limyè.
Also I was creating video mapping for personal projects for concerts, performances and exhibitions. In 2019 I left Russia and since that time have been living in Italy (my residence country), traveled to Mexico, Kenya.

Here you can see stage photos of some of my previous personal
and team projects as a videoartist:
