Polina Limyè is a multimedia artist, focusing on interweaving storytelling, mythologies, archetypes, collective unconscious, new media, mentorship and eco activism. Limyè's practice explores the relations between new media and ecology as a conversation starter for such narratives. Dominant theme within her artistic practice is the relationship between recollecting her family background (her mother is a psychologist, practicing biographical counseling, and her father - electronics engineer), emotional states, processes of creation, and the visual representation of all these interconnections.
By strong research-based practice, Limyè's works unquestionably display the significance of investigating and diving into anthropological approaches. Taking a deeper insight into the frequently overlooked complexities of the now and the everyday mental states, she turns to some of the ways in which contemporary art challenges its own limits.
The artist adopts strategies and overarching themes from cinema, fiction, theater in order to tell stories that unfold in time. Art draws on the changes of our psychological perception of time created by advances in technology. New media mirrors this shifting temporal relationship to the world, illuminating contemporary anxieties.
Limyè proposes narratives, which signify the interplay between virtual and real worlds, utopia and dystopia, body and technology. Embracing the following juxtapositions, she highlights mindmaps, which chart clear developments of thought and help to find the way forward. While mentoring the other creative specialists, the artist is interested in the way art can function as therapy, helping to work with doubts and fears, finding one's voice and creative path. She encourages to consider the work as a web of ideas, visions and images.
Confronting psychological and philosophical consequences of an inescapable reality of contemporary life, Limyè argues that art doesn't need translation. For her visual art, especially digital art, simultaneously affects on all levels: fundamental and deep.
